OTTUMWA, Iowa — A man is in custody after allegedly stabbing a man multiple times Tuesday night, Ottumwa police said in a press release.
Police said a man arrived at a local emergency room just after 11:40 p.m. Tuesday with "numerous stab wounds." The victim provided a statement to law enforcement, saying he had driven himself to the hospital after he was stabbed at an Ottumwa home.
The victim was then transported to the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City for further treatment.
Police obtained a search warrant for a home on East Golf Avenue, where they believed the crime took place.
Ottumwa police later arrested 62-year-old Joseph Michael Lewis, who lived at the home, on Thursday afternoon. Lewis faces the following charges:
- Attempt to Commit Murder
- Assault While Participating in a Felony
- Willful Injury Resulting in Serious Injury
- Going Armed With Intent
Lewis is currently being held at the Wapello County Jail. No bond has been set at this time.
