OTTUMWA, Iowa — Ottumwa police have arrested a suspect in connection to an overnight shooting on Monday.
Police found a gunshot victim parked by the employee entrance of the Ottumwa Police Department at around 2 a.m. Monday.
The victim told police he had been sitting in his car outside 203 South Adams Avenue when someone shot him through the driver's side door. The victim suffered a single gunshot wound to the hip and drove to the police station after the shooting.
The victim was transported to a hospital in Iowa City for treatment.
Ottumwa police identified 27-year-old Dylan Donovan Dekraai of Ottumwa as a potential suspect and issued a warrant for his arrest Monday morning.
Later that day, a Wapello County Sheriff's Deputy saw Dekraai in a car and attempted to stop the vehicle. The car sped away, leading to a pursuit that turned into a footchase.
The deputy was eventually able to take Dekraai into custody.
Dekraai is charged with Attempt to Commit Murder, a Class B felony. He is currently being held at Wapello County Jail.
