DES MOINES, Iowa — An 18-year-old driver is charged with vehicular homicide following a crash that killed a husband and wife in Des Moines last week, according to police.
Kameron Dale Wright of Des Moines is charged with two counts of Vehicular Homicide by OWI and two counts of Vehicular Homicide by Reckless Driving in the deaths of 76-year-old Fred Lehman and his wife, 79-year-old Mary Lehman.
Police say Wright's intoxication and "excessive speed" were significant factors leading to the crash. Police also claim Wright was traveling at a speed of more than 100 mph just before the crash.
The charges come just over a week after the two-vehicle crash occurred near the intersection of East 27th Street and East University Avenue.

Police say the victims were inside a car, turning onto East 27th Street from East University. They say Wright's car was going west on East University Avenue when it hit the other car.
The Lehmans' deaths were the 15th and 16th traffic-related fatalities of 2023.
The couple's daughter, Lyndsay Lehman, told Local 5 that she is leaning on her faith and her family following the crash.
"The love that they had for them was because of who lived within them and that was Jesus," she said. "To know them is to love them and to be loved by them."
A visitation for Fred and Mary Lehman will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 21 at New Hope Assembly of God (4425 70th St, Urbandale) from 5 to 8 p.m. A celebration of life will be held at New Hope on Wednesday, Nov. 22 at 10:30 a.m.
