Two arrested after Stewart Street drive-by shooting Monday morning, officials say

The 19-year-old suspects are being held at the Polk County Jail, according to police.

DES MOINES, Iowa — Des Moines police reported to the call of a drive-by shooting early Monday morning, officials say.

Officers arrived to the scene at the 1500 block of Stewart Street and found a home that had been struck by gunfire several times.

Multiple bullet casings were found at the scene, but no one inside the home was injured.

After witnesses provided information on the suspect vehicle, and a Des Moines police officer was able to locate it with the information given.

A traffic stop was initiated and the car was investigated.

After further investigation of the vehicle, officers located additional evidence of involvement in the shooting, as well as a handgun and suspected marijuana. 

The two people in the car were 19-year-old Caleb Ray Peterson and 19-year-old Abel Andrew Aguilar. 

Caleb Ray Peterson was charged with the following:

  • Reckless Use of Firearm - Property Damage
  • Persons Ineligible to Carry dangerous Weapons
  • Possession of Controlled Substance
  • Assault on Peace Officer

Peterson was charged with "Assault on a Peace Officer" after kicking an officer during his arrest.

Abel Andrew Aguilar was charged with the following:

  • Driving while License Denied, Suspended, Cancelled, or Revoked
  • Operating Non-Registered Vehicle
  • Possession of Controlled Substance

Both Peterson and Aguilar are being held at the Polk County Jail.
