URBANDALE, Iowa — A semi truck driver is facing several charges, including vehicular homicide, after a tow truck operator was killed in a crash Sunday night.
The Iowa State Patrol said a tow truck was legally parked on the shoulder of I-80 shortly after 10 p.m. Sunday while helping another vehicle. An Iowa Department of Transportation Highway Helper was also stationed at the scene, directing traffic.
Troopers say a semi, driven by 54-year-old Dmytro Prysich, did not move over for the emergency vehicles, nor stayed in its lane.
Prysich then ran into the tow truck operator, 45-year-old Joshua Villa. Villa died in the crash.
Prysich is facing three charges:
- Vehicular homicide/OWI
- Failure to slow down upon approach to stationary vehicle with hazards, causing death
- Leaving the scene of an accident causing death
The Urbandale Police Department and Iowa State Patrol are still investigating the crash.
Prysich is being held in the Polk County Jail without bond.
