DES MOINES, Iowa — A Friday fire at East High School in Des Moines canceled classes but was quickly put out.
The school announced on Twitter the fire broke out just after 8:30 a.m.
Lt. Chris Clement with the Des Moines Fire Department confirmed it happened in a fitness room.
Firefighters extinguished the blaze and no one was injured, according to the school. But the rest of the school day was canceled because of excessive smoke.
Busing was made available to students.
