DES MOINES, Iowa — More Iowans may be able to attend Drake University after the school announced it would cover 100% of tuition costs for some incoming students.
The Des Moines-based university announced plans to offer two full-tuition coverage opportunities: The Bulldog Promise and the Bright College Pathway.
The programs are part of the university's commitment to ensuring everyone can access a Drake education, according to Drake University President Marty Martin.
"These programs provide the hardworking, talented students of Iowa access to a world-class education with aid that is equitable to their financial situation," Martin said in a press release.
Both programs are open to Iowa students who are eligible for the Federal Pell Grant by completing the 2025-2026 FAFSA. However, there are some key differences between the two coverage opportunities.
The Bulldog Promise offers free tuition for up to four years of full-time undergraduate education to those seeking a bachelor's degree. To qualify, students must maintain a cumulative high school GPA of 3.8 or higher at the time of admission.
Eligible students must also be a first-time college student entering Drake in Fall 2025 or later.
The Bright College Pathway is designed for students wishing to pursue a two-year associate's degree program within Drake's John Dee Bright College. The offer covers full tuition for two academic years and does not require a minimum high school GPA.
Room, board and meal plan costs are not covered by either offer.
Drake isn't the first school in the Des Moines metro to offer full tuition opportunities to qualifying students. Earlier this year, Simpson College in Indianola announced it would partner with two local school districts to provide full-tuition scholarships for academic high-achievers.
