PERRY, Iowa — Perry Elementary School notified parents of new pick-up and drop-off procedures for students after an incident Thursday morning.
The school says shortly after 8 a.m. on Sept. 5 a parent became physical with Perry staff after forcefully attempting to enter the school.
Due to the incident, the school posted new drop-off rules. Going forward the school will be open only for students starting at 7:45 a.m. each morning.
"Given the events of our community and across the nation, we continue to review our procedures and reassess them as necessary," Perry Elementary School Principal Laura Skeel said in a letter to parents. “As an educator and as a mother, it is important for me to share what facts of the situation with you that I can, but I ask that you also understand that because it is an ongoing investigation with law enforcement and out of respect for those involved, I cannot share every detail.”
During pick-up all school doors will also now remain locked, meaning parents will need to wait outside by the flagpole or circle drive.
Any parent needing to speak with staff before, during or after school will need to use the doorbell system.
