Saturday night turned deadly in the Metro as 5 to 10 inches of rainfall fell in many locations causing some catastrophic flooding.

Flash flooding occurred in all different corners of central Iowa, with some of the worst spots being reported in Ankeny, Pleasant Hill, Des Moines, Johnston, and Urbandale.

At least one person was killed as a result of the flash flooding.

Hundreds of others have been forced from their homes and businesses as the waters continue to rise.

Officials with Polk County Emergency Management and the National Weather Service say this flooding is historic.

Rivers and creeks across central Iowa have reached flood stage and many of these spots will continue to rise over the next several days.

Local 5 has crews all over central Iowa and plans to have a full update at 5:30 p.m. Sunday evening.
