Boil Advisory

MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa — The Iowa Department of Natural Resources has issued a boil advisory for areas of Marshall and Grundy County due to a pressure loss event on Wednesday.

The boil advisory is in effect for the following communities named in the release:

  • Liscomb
  • Conrad
  • Whitten

A more specified affected area can be found on this map provided by the Iowa Regional Utilities Association (IRUA).

These communities are north of Marshalltown, and the boil advisory has affected approximately 250 service connections.

The incident causing the advisory happened at approximately 7 a.m. Wednesday after a control system error occurred at a pumping station, causing it to lose communication with its system, which created the pressure loss event.

The DNR said normal operating pressure was restored by 8:00 a.m. and the system was flushed.

Officials say there is no reason to believe the water quality in the area has been compromised, but encourages customers to boil water until further notice as a precaution.

Water that will be consumed or used for food preparation should be boiled. Water that is used for bathing, laundry and general outdoor use is safe to use without boiling.

The boil order will be lifted once two consecutive sets of bacterial samples collected by authorities test negative for bacteria.
