DES MOINES, Iowa — Broadlawns Medical Center announced on Thursday that Dr. Anthony Coleman, the health care organization's president and CEO, has resigned.
“We appreciate Dr. Coleman’s contributions to Broadlawns during his time in Des Moines and wish him well in the next chapter of his career,” Dave Miglin, the Chairperson of the Broadlawns Medical Center (BMC) Board of Trustees, said in a news release announcing Coleman's departure.
Broadlawns is a Des Moines-based nonprofit healthcare organization with over 1,200 employees that's served central Iowa for nearly a century. Thursday's release noted that the BMC Board of Trustees has officially received and accepted Coleman's resignation.
When Coleman began as BMC President and CEO in December of 2021, he replaced Jody Jenner. Prior to his hiring, Coleman served as Vice President of Operations and Assistant Hospital Administrator for Kaiser Permanente in San Bernadino, Calif. He received a Doctorate and Bachelor's degree from the Medical University of South Carolina and Southern Illinois University respectively.
Coleman also served 20 years with the United States Navy.
When Coleman began at Broadlawns, it was six months after the retirement of Jenner, who'd led the organization for 15 years to that point. The reason for Coleman's resignation is not detailed in the release.
In light of Coleman's departure, Chief Medical Officer Jason Kruse — the acting chief medical officer who's been with Broadlawns for nearly a decade — will serve as Interim CEO. According to the release, BMC's board plans to initiate a nationwide search for a new President and CEO.
In his two years helming the organization, Coleman oversaw the expansion of the BMC obstetrics department, the renovation of BMC's pediatrics clinic and the completion of the Broadlawns Community Clinic at Drake in September.
