Metro cities experiencing water main breaks

WEST DES MOINES, Iowa — Update:

In an update at 1 p.m., the City of Woodward said water will be restored by 5 p.m. The city said there will be air in the water lines and fire hydrants will be flushed to remove the air.

Officials said the city is under a boil order until further notice, but water is safe to use for showers, baths, laundry and more.

Boil orders often include water you use for "preparing food, drinks, or ice; dishwashing; and hygiene, such as brushing teeth and bathing," according to the CDC

Two cities in the Des Moines metro reported water main breaks Wednesday morning.

Woodward officials say the city currently does not have active water service. In a Facebook post, the city said they will provide updates as they work to fix the issue.

The Woodward-Granger Community School District announced they will release students early at 12:45 p.m. due to the water main break.

The City of Windsor Heights also reported a water main break around 6605 Northwest Dr. Officials warned residents in the area may experience an impact on their water services until the break has been fixed.
