WEST DES MOINES – One of the metro’s finest on the force, Des Moines Police Sgt. Tony Beminio, was laid to rest Monday.
It was a funeral filled with emotion for Beminio, with hundreds filing in at the Lutheran Church of Hope. Speakers talked of a man who was great at every aspect of his life, and somone who left an enormous void.
He was intelligent, organized, creative, dedicated,” said Chief Dana Wingert. “When Tony was at work he always had the advantage and his level of success made it clear that he wasn’t good at his job – he was great at his job.”
Wingert and the Des Moines department lost two other officers earlier in the year, and the chief said this loss was just as hard, if not harder.
“They’ve been to hell and back in the past year,” said Wingert. “They don’t quit. Tony is part of an invisible organization that won’t quit. That is what Tony represents, these are his people.”
Sgt. Beminio and Urbandale officer Justin Martin were ambushed and killed in the line of duty in the early hours of November 2nd. The accused shooter, Urbandale resident Scott Greene, remains in jail on a $10 million bond.
