Des Moines — The grandmother of a woman who died in a major car crash in November 2015 said she’s ready to move forward now that the man who was driving has been sentenced.

Troy Mure JR. was sentenced to 15 years in prison Wednesday. He was found guilty for vehicular homicide and reckless driving. Police said Mure was speeding and driving under the influence when he lost control of the car and crashed into a pole so hard the care wrapped around a pole. The passenger, Scalicity Boyd, died at the scene. Mure was hospitalized and later arrested.

After Mure’s sentencing Wednesday, Boyd’s grandmother could hardly speak about her feelings.

“It”s not enough,” she said, “I just feel he took away the most beautiful thing we had in our life.”

Boyd left behind 4 young children. Their great grandmother told Local 5 their father is not in the picture.

“We are very strong and we stick together and we’re very supportive,” she explained.

The great grandmother did not want Local 5 to reveal her name or face. She was too emotional to say much and began to cry as she started reflecting back on November. She expressed she was frustrated because, “He destroyed our family. And no amount of time they gave him is enough. You can’t replace my granddaughter.”

The woman said the kids are doing well for the most part. They have their ups and downs but they are strong she said.
