Adel getting new police chief in February

Currently a lieutenant, detective Wade Book will trade in his position for the title of chief of police starting in February 2024.

ADEL, Iowa — Adel will soon have a familiar face heading its police department, according to an announcement from the city on Thursday.

Currently a lieutenant, detective Wade Book will trade in his position for the title of chief of police starting on Feb. 2, 2024.

Book was voted into the position unanimously by Adel City Council following Mayor Jim Peters' recommendation back in October.

He has been at the department since 2013 and will replace Gordy Shepherd, who's spent 31 years in law enforcement — and 27 of those in Adel.
