JEFFERSON, Iowa — A man is in custody after allegedly abducting his 7-year-old son Tuesday afternoon, Iowa State Patrol said in a press release.
34-year-old Brandon Duong was arrested Tuesday evening following negotiations with law enforcement. He is charged with Kidnapping in the First Degree.
The arrest came several hours after an Amber Alert was issued for 7-year-old Bryson Duong in Greene County, naming Brandon as the abductor.
Brandon allegedly took Bryson from Greene Elementary School in Jefferson, despite a December 2023 court order restricting him from having custody.
Law enforcement were able to locate Brandon's truck just before 5 p.m. northeast of Remsen. Brandon attempted to evade officers and eventually crashed his truck. From there, Brandon left the vehicle on foot, carrying Bryson and a rifle.
Law enforcement negotiated with Brandon for about two hours before taking him into custody. Bryson is now under the care of the Department of Human Services.
"The Jefferson Police Department and Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation will continue their investigation to further understand the circumstances that necessitated the issuance of the Amber Alert," Iowa State Patrol said in a press release.

An Amber Alert has been issued for 7-year-old Bryson Duong in Greene County on Monday. The alert went out at approximately 3:30 p.m.
Bryson is Asian with black hair and brown eyes. He is 3 feet 8 inches tall and weighs approximately 60 pounds. Authorities say he was last wearing a black coat and black snow pants with brown side patches.
Authorities believe Bryson was taken by 34-year-old Brandon Duong. Brandon is Asian, with black hair and brown eyes. He is approximately 5 feet 10 inches tall and weighs 135 pounds. He was last wearing a black coat and black pants.
At this time, it is unclear if Brandon and Bryson are related in any way.
Brandon is believed to be driving a black 2015 Toyota Tacoma with Iowa plates DFV202.
