AMES – A man visiting Ames was arrested Monday after he allegedly broke into a neighboring room at an Ames motel and assaulted a woman.
Miguel Angel Marinez Garces,32, is charged with assault with intent to commit sexual abuse, second-degree burglary and third degree harassment.
Police say that Marinez Garces knocked on a door at Ames Motor Lodge Motel, 318 E. Lincoln Way, just after 11:30 p.m. Sunday, and forced his way into the room. The victim tells Local 5 News that when she tried to shut the door, “The man put his foot in the threshold and then pushed the door in”.
The victim says that Marinez Garces entered the room and grabbed her waist before he began touching her inappropriately. She adds that the man wanted to preform sexual acts on her.
According to court documents the woman was able to get up from bed and ran to a local business where she later called police.
The owners of the Ames Motor Lodge Motel told Local 5 that they believe the allegations are false. They also say they have given Ames Police a copy of hotel security video and don’t want this bad publicity to hurt their business.
As of Monday afternoon Marinez Garces was being held in Story County Jail on $50,000 bond.
