DES MOINES – Top-ranked NAIA wrestler Andrew Long has been dismissed from the Grand View University wrestling program for violations of his code of conduct policy.

Grand View head wrestling coach Nick Mitchell told Local 5’s Elias Johnson that Long was reportedly seen drinking alcohol during the weekend. According to Mitchell, Long confirmed the accusation and accepted his dismissal from the team.

Long also was dismissed from the University – he would have graduated in April. Mitchell said no criminal charges or other legal action would result from the violation.

Due to Long’s previous criminal background and status as a registered sex offender, Long had agreed to an extensive personal code of conduct requirement to gain admission to Grand View and on to the wrestling team.

The news of Long’s dismissal comes just a day after Local 5 aired an in-depth story of Long’s personal struggles and criminal history off the wrestling mat. The story – Wrestling With Life – explored the circumstances surrounding Long’s third chance at collegiate wrestling.
