CEDAR RAPIDS – A state representative has filed papers for a run for Iowa’s 1st Congressional District.
State Rep. Ashley Hinson (R-Cedar Rapids) will be challenging Rep. Abby Finkenauer (D-Iowa) for a seat in Congress. Hinson has served in the Iowa House of Representatives, representing the eastern Iowa area.
Hinson told KCRG a few months ago that she was mulling over a bid for a seat in Congress.
Finkenauer unseated Republican Rod Blum in last November’s elections. She is also the second youngest person ever to serve in Congress.
Iowa’s First District has been a hotly contested race for the past several elections.
