DES MOINES – The Principal Charity Classic is certain to thrill golf fans. But you don’t have to be a golf fan to have a great time. This is Des Moines’ official Summer kick-off party. So the folks at PCC are making sure there’s plenty of party for everyone.

10’s of thousands of serious golf fans will be there. But what if you just want to make the scene to Iowa’s summer kickoff? PCC has you covered. First stop should be Camarena Cantina by the 17th hole. It was moved Greenside for this year.

“The public does a lot for us. And they come out, they show in crowds, and the players know that they’re right on the left side of the green, and they’ll be right up front and close to the action there,” says Parker Murphy with the Principal Charity Classic.

Then there’s the signature party zone up by the 17 tee box. It’s always a favorite view for PCC regulars. This year, it’s bigger and higher. Yes, one story just wasn’t enough. They’ve gone to a double-decker set up, with corporate boxes below and a public champions club above.

The other big party area is right by the front entrance. The Patriot’s Outpost is conveniently located there. Veterans get into the tournament for free and PCC has a special viewing area just for them right in the main gate. “You turn left and right there it is wheelchair accessible. It’s easy to get to and there’s food and drink involved. We just encourage folks to come out. It’s a nice structure and it’s a good view from a bunch of different vantage points,” says Murphy.

For those who want more party than golf, look how close it all is to the front entrance. You’re right next to the 13th green and into the action. “Here you can casually watch some golf. Or for those people that really want to come out and pound the course all around, go ahead and watch them off anywhere you want,” says Murphy.

If you’re a vet, this golf tournament is a great deal you should really take advantage of. Your entry into the event is free and the Patriot’s Outpost is right by the front entrance. There’s also an accessibility shuttle from the Southridge Mall.

Let’s not forget why we are here: Iowa kids. Mercy One Children’s Hospital Heart Superheroes were featured at the PCC today. Each of them experienced life-saving cardiac care at Mercy One Children’s Hospital. So they were here to help others just like them.

“Well the children are out grabbing people as they walk by getting their pictures taken. They’ve each got a little trading card with their picture on it and a little bit of information about them and the child who gets the most pictures gets five hundred dollars in their name donated to Mercy One Children’s Hospital,” says Mercy One Pediatric Cardiologist Dr. Thomas Becker.

Another great cause highlighted here at the PCC.
