Cass County officials searching for suspect in potential kidnapping case

The victim told a Cass County passerby he'd been kidnapped in Lincoln, Neb., and was being forced to drive an armed kidnapper to Chicago.

CASS COUNTY, Iowa — The Cass County Sheriff's Office is asking for the public's help in a potential kidnapping case.

Authorities were alerted of the situation around 5:10 p.m. on Saturday when someone reported that they'd been flagged down on the side of I-80 near exit 51 by a possible kidnapping victim, according to the press release.

The victim told the caller that he'd been kidnapped in Lincoln, Neb., and was being forced to drive an armed kidnapper to Chicago. Allegedly, the suspect made the victim stop in Cass County before pulling a gun on a Silver Chevy two-door pickup passing by.

The suspect then entered the Chevy and forced that driver to continue eastbound, leaving the first kidnapping victim on the roadside.

Officials believe the suspect is a Black man in his 20s to 30s with a stubbly beard. He is believed to be about 5'10" tall, weigh around 160 pounds and wearing a black t-shirt and jeans. The driver of the Chevy was described as an older white man with a beard.

It's unclear whether the suspect is still with the Chevy driver or headed toward Chicago.

If you have any information, officials ask you call the Cass County Sheriff's Office at (712) 243-2206.
