BROOKLYN, IA – A celebration in honor of the late Mollie Tibbetts will be held Wednesday to mark what would’ve been her 21st birthday.

The event, open to the public, aims to raise fund for the Brooklyn Opera House. Attendees will have the opportunity to fill out ‘Kindness Cards’ for free.  Organizers hope visitors will donate $21 in honor of Mollie’s 21st birthday.

The celebration of will be held from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. inside the Michael J. Manatt Community Center in Brooklyn.

In July, 2018 a massive search was launched to find Tibbetts after she went missing while out for a run.

Her body was discovered weeks later, concealed in a cornfield outside town. Police said the man charged for her murder, Christian Rivera, led authorities to her location after being questioned in her disappearance.

“It was indescribable, and it took a higher power to get me through it,” Tibbetts’ mother, Laura Calderwood, told ‘Good Morning America’ Wednesday morning.

Rivera is an undocumented immigrant who was working at Yarrabee Farms at the time of the murder.  He has pled not guilty.
