CRESTON – 53 people will lose their jobs thanks to CHS Inc. closing down its soybean processing plant.
Local 5 obtained a statement from the co-op company.
“Over the past 11 months, CHS worked hard to reposition the plant with a buyer, each with their own list of conditions and business requirements. Unfortunately, market dynamics forced a different decision,” noted a statement from the company.
The news was delivered in person to the 53 employees, by the plant manager, the CHS director of operations for this division, and a human resources representative. Impacted employees received specific details about their separation, including severance pay and outplacement services.
CHS shutting down this facility comes several months after another big employer for the town, candy maker Ferrara, said it would close a plant with 250 people.
Operations at Creston included soybean crushing, and manufacturing soybean meal and soy flour used by consumer and pet food manufacturers.
CHS acquired the facility in 2011 from Creston Bean Processing.
