OGDEN — The only grocery store in Ogden is still burning 12 hours after the blaze began.
Authorities responded to the fire at the Ogden Mart around 8 p.m. Saturday.
Fire Chief of Ogden Rick Sturtz says the fire will most likely burn for another three to four days.
Small explosions did happen over night, Sturtz told Local 5. While officials couldn’t identify exactly what the explosions were, they suspect that they may have been aerosol cans in the grocery store.
This is the third time the building has caught fire since Sturtz joined the department 52 years ago.
A fire marshal is at the scene investigating. According to Sturtz, the signs are pointing to the fire starting in or around the kitchen, but the exact cause is under investigation.
The Des Moines National Weather Service says the fire was hot enough to display on GOES-16 satellite imagery.
New owners bought the building earlier this year.
