WALL LAKE, Iowa — Residents across Sac County gathered with David Schultz's loved ones to honor his life at a funeral service Friday.
Held at a local church in Wall Lake, where Schultz grew up, more than 100 people attended the service.
The pastor leading the service spoke about David's love for his family and profession, while also acknowledging that many questions surrounding his disappearance remain unanswered.
"Yes, David will receive a proper burial, but still have a bunch of unanswered questions, a lot of uncertainty," the pastor said.
Schultz was a truck owner and operator for the majority of his career, but would never come to finish his final delivery.
Last November, the beloved husband, father and son vanished after picking up a load of hogs. His truck was left abandoned on a highway in Sac City, with the hogs still inside the attached trailer.
It wasn't until late April that his body was found in a rural field, just over one mile from where the truck was found.
Officials have maintained that they do not suspect foul play in Schultz's death, but further details from the autopsy are expected to be released in the coming weeks.
"I don't know what happened, as to why there's not more details coming out," said Iowa truck driver Mitchel Riesgraf. "We don't know who or what is responsible."
Riesgraf, the Iowa Chairman of CDL Drivers Unlimited, summoned other local truck drivers for a convoy on Friday afternoon to drive the route last taken by Schultz.
"I'm hoping this can be a catalyst, and help truck drivers remember the importance of coming together. No one is gonna together around our issues more than we should," he told Local 5.
