DES MOINES, Iowa — After nearly a decade serving as city manager of Des Moines, Scott Sanders announced he will resign from the role this fall.
"This is a bittersweet time for us, but we wish him the best in his next chapter, and we look forward to him remaining on staff over the next six months as City Council works on developing a transition plan and begins a recruitment process for his replacement," Mayor Connie Boesen said in a statement.
Sanders was appointed city manager in September of 2014, according to his biography on the City of Des Moines website.
In his role, Sanders is an advisor to city council, serves as the city's "chief negotiator" and supervises department directors. He first joined the City of Des Moines in 2011 as Finance Director before becoming Assistant City Manager.
