DES MOINES, Iowa — One person is dead following a residential fire in the Waterbury neighborhood Sunday night, Des Moines police said in a press release.

Police and firefighters responded to a report of a fire at a four-plex residence on Polk Boulevard, near the Des Moines Art Center, just before 11 p.m. Sunday.

Firefighters contained the fire to one residence of the building and put out the flames. A 68-year-old man was found dead after the fire was extinguished.

Police say they do not suspect criminal activity led to the fire. Capt. Chris Clement of the Des Moines Fire Department said the fire could have been caused by "smoking materials."
