1 person shot in leg on Saturday night, Des Moines police say

No suspect is in custody as of yet, and the status of the injured person is unknown.

DES MOINES, Iowa — Des Moines police are investigating after at least one person was shot in the leg on Saturday night.

The shooting happened near the 1500 block of Searle Street in northeastern Des Moines at approximately 8:28 p.m., just a few blocks away from Phillips Elementary School, according to the Des Moines Police Department.

As of 8:30 p.m., the scene was secure and the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation was responding. 

No suspect is in custody as of yet, and the status of the injured person is unknown. 

Police claim there is no ongoing threat to the area at this time. 

"Expect an increased police presence in this area as this investigation progresses," the department's post on X, formerly known as Twitter, reads in part.
