DES MOINES, Iowa — A big day for football fans means a big day for local businesses, and some spots in Des Moines spent the whole day preparing for this event.
With deals and events happening across town, it was an all-day gathering for some places.
Smash Park in West Des Moines also had events and deals going on all day Sunday.
"For us this is an awesome opportunity to really celebrate the community, to cheer on our teams with them, and all of our regulars will be in for sure," Smash Park general manager Donald Garrett said. "We're always excited to have them."
Smash Park held their fifth-annual Super Bags tournament, which started warm-ups at 9 a.m. Sunday.
"We had a number of sign-ups today this morning even, super excited to give that full prize, so we're doing a full payout of the registration so that's $2,000 cash payout," Garrett said.
Another local spot, The Station on Ingersoll, bought extra wings this year after selling out last year from a packed house.
“We’ve got the staff, we’ve got the food and we’re ready to be here for people to come in and have a good time," said Jessica Rice, the general manager at The Station on Ingersoll.
"We just want it to be somewhere people can come and feel like its home," Rice added.
With many Iowa ties and teams close to Iowa, both places have their own teams they are rooting for.
"Well, I mean the Chiefs are playing, so forget about it, right?" Garrett said.
Despite many Chiefs fans around, some are optimistic for the 49ers fans to show out.
"We've had an increase in [Forty] Niners fans I would say this year, so we're hoping to kind of keep that up," Rice said.
While Sunday is a great day for business, both places want everyone to know that they are always open for big sporting events for all to come.
