DES MOINES, Iowa — Des Moines police have detained one person after a shooting outside of Merle Hay Mall on Tuesday evening.
Police say "multiple juveniles" were involved in the shooting, which happened near a Des Moines mall around 5:30 p.m. on March 12.
Police originally claimed the shooting happened in the Merle Hay Mall parking lot. Twenty minutes later, police updated that the shooting actually occurred near the 5800 block of Douglas Avenue — right across from the mall.
"Further investigation has determined the scene of the incident to be across the street from the mall in the 5800 blk Douglas Ave," DMPD shared on X, formerly known as Twitter.
No injuries have been reported, and shell casings have been recovered near the scene.
Police claim there is no indication of ongoing danger to the area as of 6 p.m.
