Des Moines police: Woman killed after she was shot, hit by a car on June 2

"Witnesses reported that the shooting incident occurred during a large gathering of people in the parking lot," the Des Moines Police Department said.

DES MOINES, Iowa — Des Moines police say a woman has died following a Sunday, June 2 incident at Ashworth Park that also injured two others.

Police responded to Ashworth Park around 1:30 a.m. Sunday after receiving calls of gunshots in the area. They arrived to find 34-year-old Courtany Mundy-Gonzalez in the parking lot "suffering from [a] gunshot injury and additional injuries received after being struck by a vehicle," the Des Moines Police Department said in a press release.

Mundy-Gonzalez was transported to Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.

Two other people, both 19-year-olds, subsequently arrived at MercyOne Des Moines Medical Center with gunshot injuries they suffered at the same location.

Police said Mundy-Gonzalez died on Thursday and the two 19-year-olds remain "hospitalized in serious condition."

"Witnesses reported that the shooting incident occurred during a large gathering of people in the parking lot," DMPD said.

This marks the city's fifth homicide of 2024.
