Des Moines police searching for man on scene of Monday stabbing

Des Moines police said they're unsure if the shirtless man near the scene was "a witness or potential suspect."

DES MOINES, Iowa — Des Moines police are investigating a stabbing that left a man in critical condition Monday morning. 

Officers say a 38-year-old man was stabbed multiple times near the intersection of 11th Street and Forest Avenue at approximately 5:38 a.m. The victim is currently at a local hospital, where he remains in critical condition.

Police say there is no ongoing threat to the neighborhood, but they are searching for a white man around 25 years old who was shirtless near the scene. 

"It is currently in known if this person was a witness or potential suspect. Detectives would like to speak with this person," DMPD shared on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter. 

The intersection of 11th and Forest was closed for investigation on Monday morning.
