Man hospitalized after 'shooting incident', Des Moines police say

Police say a gun was recovered at the scene.

DES MOINES, Iowa — A man is in the hospital following a "shooting incident" in Des Moines Wednesday, police said on X.

Police and fire personnel arrived on scene at Arthur Avenue and Hubbell Avenue around 1:30 p.m. A man was transported to the hospital in "serious condition."

Police are unsure where the shooting itself occurred, as the victim was dropped off at the corner, where they were able to call for help. Officers also recovered a gun at the scene.

Sgt. Paul Parizek said the department is seeing an increase in cases like this one.

"This is getting to the point now where sometimes it feels like day shift is midnights with the lights turned on," he said. "It's very busy, very active for our officers, and we're trying to make sure we got a good grip on it to keep the neighborhood safe."

Parizek went on to say police still don't know how or why the shooting took place, but they believe there is no ongoing danger to the neighborhood.

Hubbell Avenue was temporarily closed at Guthrie Avenue and E. 29th Street, but has reopened as of around 2:10 p.m.
