Performer injured in Disney on Ice show in Minneapolis

A skater portraying Belle from "Beauty and the Beast" was hurt after falling to the ice during a lift.

MINNEAPOLIS — A performer remains hospitalized after suffering a severe injury during a Disney on Ice performance at Target Center on Saturday, officials confirm.

According to a press release, a skater performing as Belle from "Beauty and the Beast" was injured during a lift and fell to the ice. She was rushed to a local hospital.

Officials at Hennepin County Medical Center confirmed the performer remains at the hospital as of Monday, adding that her condition has been updated from critical to serious.

A Disney on Ice spokesperson confirmed the injured performer is not a local Minnesota skater who is with the production, adding that the company "appreciates the well wishes from our fans as our team member recovers."

"This happened about 40 minutes into the show," said a woman named Beka, who took her two kids to the morning show. "They were doing a lift, it appeared shaky and she fell. I am beyond grateful and thankful for the remaining staff and the performers who kept going because that preserves the magic for the kids. I know that has to have been very difficult."

Another showgoer named Christina says the crew got to the skater quickly when she fell. Tonight, she's thinking about those performers.

"Our hearts go out to them," she said. "We just hope that she's okay and that she recovers."

The show is scheduled to run from Feb. 9-11 in Minneapolis.
