MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa — An elderly woman was found dead following a house fire Monday, Marshalltown Fire Department said.
The department was dispatched Monday just before 1 p.m. to a house fire at 1404 South Center Street where they found a split-level home with a fire in the living room area.
After putting out the fire, the elderly victim was found dead in the area of the fire.
Once the fire was under control, the fire department immediately notified the city's police detectives as well as special agents from the Iowa Arson and Explosives Bureau.
Authorities said that the cause of the fire is unknown at this time, and investigations will continue.
