Ex-Iowa Central football player sentenced in Fort Dodge fight

One of two former football players at an Iowa community college has been sentenced for his role in a fight.

One of two former football players at an Iowa community college has been sentenced for his role in a fight. 

20-year-old Darryl Kelley, who pleaded guilty to willful injury causing bodily injury,was sentenced to a 5-year suspended prison term in Webster County Court and placed on probation. 

Kelley and 19-year-old Jesse Driver Jr., who were both members of the Iowa Central Community College football team at the time, were arrested October 30 following a fight in a Fort Dodge alley. According to criminal complaints, Kelley and Driver Jr. stomped on the victim’s head, giving the man a broken eye socket. 

Fort Dodge police say the victim was “not engaged” in the fight. 

Driver Jr. has pleaded not guilty to his charge, and is scheduled for a January 2019 jury trial. 

Neither play is currently listed on the current Iowa Central football roster.

The athletic department at Iowa Central did not immediately return requests for comment.
