Former state Sen. Rita Hart announced on Tuesday that she will run for Congress in Iowa’s 2nd District as a Democrat.
In an announcement video released on Twitter, Hart said that she “understands the issues that rural Iowa faces.”
Hart served in the state Senate from 2012 to 2016 representing the 49th District which includes Clinton and northern Scott counties. In 2018, she was the Democratic nominee for Iowa’s Lieutenant Governor.
Rep. Dave Loebsack announced earlier this year that he is retiring his position in Congress and will no longer represent the 2nd District after he completes his term in 2020.
