ANKENY – Prom dresses can be expensive, so one high school is giving away free gowns so young women can feel beautiful on their special day.
Project Fresh Start, sponsored by Ankeny Schools Community Engagement, is making it easier for everyone to get a dress.
“Prom dresses are very, very expensive and not all girls can afford to go out and buy that 300, 400, 500 dollar prom dress. We want everyone to feel special and beautiful,” said co-chair, Amber McKenna, about why they do it.
Here are the schools that are participating in the event: Ankeny Centennial High School, Ankeny High School, Ankeny Christian Academy, Ballard, Bondurant, Madrid, North Polk, Saydel, Southeast Polk and Woodward-Granger.
The event is being held at Parkview Middle School at 105 NW Pleasant St. in Ankeny.
