Gov. Reynolds names new Iowa Supreme Court justice

DES MOINES – Gov. Kim Reynolds named Judge Susan Christensen to the Iowa Supreme Court Thursday.

DES MOINES – Gov. Kim Reynolds named Judge Susan Christensen to the Iowa Supreme Court Thursday. 

Christensen, who serves as a judge in the Fourth Judicial District in Harlan, will take the place on Iowa’s highest court when Justice Bruce Zager retires on September 3. 

Christensen was appointed to the bench November 4, 2015, graduated from Judson College in 1988 and received her law degree from Creighton University School of Law in 1991. She served as a District Associate Judge from 2007 until her appointment.

Christensen was in private practice in Harlan with Larson, Childs, Hall and Christensen from 1991 to 2003 and the Law Offices of Susan Larson Christensen from 2003 to 2007. Her practice focused on family law. 

Christensen also served as Assistant County Attorney in Shelby County from 1991 to 2007, Harrison County from 1996 to 2007 and Crawford County in 2007. 

Iowa Supreme Court justices serve an initial term of office that is one year after appointment and until January 1 following the next judicial retention election after expiration of such year.
