Grimes auto shop evacuated after 'suspicious object' found inside car

When deputies arrived at the scene, they saw "what looked like a plastic pipe with one fuse on the end," according to the sheriff's office.

GRIMES, Iowa — The Polk County Sheriff's Office is investigating after an unnamed "suspicious object" was found in Grimes Thursday morning. 

Sheriff's deputies responded to a report of a "suspicious object" inside a car at a ADESA Auto Auction detail shop. 

When deputies arrived at the scene, they saw "what looked like a plastic pipe with one fuse on the end," according to the sheriff's office. 

The area was evacuated and the Des Moines Police Bomb Squad was called in to assist. The bomb squad rendered the device safe while on scene. 

The Polk County Sheriff's Office continues to investigate the incident. Officials believe there is no ongoing danger to the public.
