DES MOINES — A missing teenager may not want to be found, according to evidence found by police.

Abdullahi “Abdi” Sharif, 18, was last seen Friday evening at Merle Hay Mall. A Facebook post from the Des Moines Police Department says neither police or his family have been able to contact him.

Des Moines Police Sgt. Paul Parizek tells Local 5 that there are concerns of his welfare.

“We have found evidence that indicates his absence is voluntary. That doesn’t squelch our concerns about his welfare,” he said.

Parizek says authorities are still searching for Abdi.

Abdi is around 5’4″ tall and weighs about 120 lbs, according to the police. He was last seen wearing a dark-colored winter coat, khaki-colored pants and tennis shoes.

If you have any knowledge on where he might be, call 911 immediately.
