2 injured after Kossuth County house explosion, authorities say

Two of the three residents of the home were inside at the time of the explosion.

KOSSUTH COUNTY, Iowa — The Kossuth County Sheriff's Office responded to a house explosion at approximately 9 a.m. on Monday morning, according to a release.

The sheriff's office stated that the caller who alerted the department said that debris was found throughout the acreage and roadways after what appeared to be an explosion in the house.

When first responders arrived on the scene, they found that two of the three residents of the home were inside the building at the time of the explosion.

The first resident, a 44-year-old, was found on the west side of the home under debris. First responders were able to remove them and transport them to Kossuth Regional Health Center before taking them to Mason City via Mercy Life Flight.

The other resident, a 21-year-old, was able to crawl out from the debris on their own before being transported to Humboldt County Hospital.

The cause of the explosion remains under investigation, and authorities say there is no danger to the public at this time.
