Woman dies following house fire, Northern Warren Fire Department says

Fire crews responded to a a house fire on Pilmer Drive in the Greenfield Plaza neighborhood at around 3:20 p.m. Wednesday.

DES MOINES, Iowa — One person is dead following a house fire Wednesday in south Des Moines, the Northern Warren Fire Department said in a press release.

Fire crews responded to a a house fire on Pilmer Drive in the Greenfield Plaza neighborhood at around 3:20 p.m. Wednesday. 

The Northern Warren Fire Department was informed a person was trapped inside the residence, leading the department to request aid from the Carlisle, Norwalk and West Des Moines fire departments. Warren County deputies and Carlisle police also responded to the scene. 

When engines arrived, crews found a 79-year-old woman inside the house. First responders performed CPR on the woman. Meanwhile, fire crews located fire and heavy smoke in the main level and basement of the home. 

The woman was transported to a local hospital, where she later died. 

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Northern Warren Fire Department and State Fire Marshall's Office.
