Of course, it’s Valentine’s Day, but it’s also Ash Wednesday.
It’s the Christian holiday that marks the start of Lent.
“It’s a time of reflection, it is a time of reaching out to those who are in need, it is a time of looking at how we need to make changes in our own lives. We as Christians are called to three main practices during Lent. We’re called to fasting, we’re called to almsgiving, and we’re called to prayer,” says Father Mark Neal, the pastor at St. Theresa Catholic Church in Des Moines.
Hundreds of people around central Iowa attended mass services throughout the day.
