Wednesday would have been the 21st birthday of Mollie Tibbetts, the 20-year-old University of Iowa student reported missing in July 2018 after going for a jog in her hometown of Brooklyn, Iowa.
Tibbetts was found dead a month later, with 24-year-old Cristhian Bahena Rivera arrested and charged with Murder in the First Degree.
Laura Calderwood, Tibbetts’ mother, spoke to ‘Good Morning America’ about the time following Tibbetts’ death.
“I don’t want to feel anger,” Calderwood said. “I don’t spend a lot of time thinking about it at all.”
A celebration of life will be held from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday inside the Michael J. Manatt Community Center in Brooklyn, where organizers are encouraging people to donate $21 to restore the Brooklyn Opera House.
