IOWA, USA — Starting Tuesday, farmers can apply for federal assistance for money lost because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Coronavirus Food Assistance Program application period runs from May 26 to August 28. The program has $16 billion in federal aid money set aside specifically for farmers.
The money each farmer receives is based on the size of their operation.
Farmers have to apply through their county farm service agency, according to Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Mike Naig.
"They'll need to go in and then identify whether they're making a claim for livestock production, or for crop production, or whatever product they're involved in," Sec. Naig said.
Click here to access the application form. If you find there isn't enough space on the application form for what you need, there's a continuation form you can use to fill out the rest of that you need.
There's also a payment calculator you can access to figure out how much money you may qualify for.
