Sara Haines and Michael Strahan took very different paths to their new show, ‘GMA Day’.

Haines, a Newton native, started on the production side of TV while in New York. But it was Strahan, an NFL legend and Super Bowl champion, who first brought up the idea of teaming up.

“It was a slow build, but I was lucky enough to meet Michael a few years ago,” Haines said during a live interview Monday on Local 5 Midday.  “In passing, he sweetly said ‘I would love to work with you’. And I thought I could die that day. I felt honored.”

“Everybody in Iowa, you should be very proud,” Strahan said. “You put out an incredible person here … who is just very sweet.”

Haines and Strahan’s new show will be based on, quite simply, feeling good. From cooking to workout segments, the hosts are aiming to give viewers a dose of fun each day.

‘GMA Day’ airs 12-1 p.m. Monday-Friday on Local 5
