Iowa State Patrol: Semi-truck driver hospitalized after rear-ending farm equipment

A Pennsylvania man is hospitalized with "life-threatening injuries" after rear-ending a field sprayer Friday, according to Iowa State Patrol.

MAHASKA COUNTY, Iowa — A Pennsylvania man is hospitalized with "life-threatening injuries" after rear-ending farming equipment in rural Mahaska County on Friday afternoon, according to an Iowa State Patrol crash report

Officials believe a semi-truck driven by 49-year-old Robert Weed hit a field sprayer while both vehicles were headed south on Highway 163 around 2:30 p.m. Friday. The crash happened near mile marker 45, east of Pella. 

First responders airlifted Weed to Mercy Hospital in Des Moines with life-threatening injuries. The field sprayer's driver, 65-year-old Lee Deprenger, sustained minor injuries and was taken to Pella Regional Hospital by a personal vehicle. 

Both drivers were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash.
