DES MOINES – Despite the clouds, all eyes were on the sky for the solar eclipse.
Iowa experienced a partial eclipse on Monday. The amount that the moon covers the sun varies depending on where the viewer is standing. Locals today say they feel lucky to have even seen a sliver of the historic site. By just seeing a glimpse of the eclipse, it actually made this historic sighting more astonishing for Iowans.
“No it makes it more exciting when you see it, and then you don’t see it. It’s like where’s waldo,” said Ankeny resident, Tim Brehm.
At the end of the day it didn’t matter where you were watching from or how much you could see, everyone witnessed in some way or another, the Total Eclipse of the Heartland.
“Having all the families here and sharing in the excitement that they are having, makes it a little more enjoyable,” said West Des Moines resident, Merritt Beaman.
