Jasper County lights up community with 'Tree-Mendous' volunteer event

For the third year in a row, the Jasper County Historical Museum is showcasing hundreds of Christmas trees decorated by the community.

DES MOINES, Iowa — We may be past Christmas, but Jasper County is still finding ways to stay in the holiday spirit.

For the third year in a row, the Jasper County Historical Museum is showcasing hundreds of Christmas trees decorated by the community.

New this year, trees decorated by the Baxter, Lynnville-Sully, Newton and Prairie City-Monroe school districts are competing for first place in the decorating competition.

The entire festive exhibit is the product of volunteers' hard work.

"We've been running all strictly, almost all volunteers. And I guess elderly people enjoy that and Christmas. As a museum it's, I guess, what we live for," said Dave Rorabaugh, chairperson of Jasper County Museum Board.

Churches within the county can also be seen on some of the trees.

To check out this "Tree-Mendous" event, head to the Jasper County Historical Museum from 1-8 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 30 or Sunday, Dec. 31.

The museum also told Local 5 they expect to do this again next year.
